NIHR conducts a field visit to the Reform and Rehabilitation Center (Jau)
Based on the broad mandate granted to the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) in the area of protecting and promoting human rights, and the authority it holds under the provisions of its establishment law, the Detention & Facilities Visitation Committee at NIHR conducted an inspection visit to the Reform and Rehabilitation Center in the Jau. This visit aimed to ensure that inmates are enjoying all their rights as stipulated by international standards and national human rights legislation.
Committed to transparency and full accountability in reporting the state of human rights within detention facilities to the inmates' families and the general public, NIHR notes that during the visit, its delegation met with a group of inmates in several buildings. The visit coincided with meal distribution times, allowing for an assessment of the quality and quantity of the meals provided. Additionally, the delegation reviewed the communication systems and the living conditions of the inmates, and several observations and recommendations were made to the relevant authorities.
